India Women defeated England Women by 24 runs in an exciting contest at the County Ground, Bristol. Jemimah Rodrigues and Amanjot Kaur were standout performers with the bat, both scoring impressive half-centuries. Lauren Bell was the pick of the bowlers for England, with economical figures of 4-0-17-2. Tammy Beaumont put up a valiant effort for England with a quick-fire 54, but it wasn’t enough to chase down the target.
India Women batted first after England Women won the toss and elected to field. The innings started on a shaky note as both Smriti Mandhana (13 off 13) and Shafali Verma (3 off 4) fell cheaply, leaving India at 21/2. Jemimah Rodrigues then stabilized the innings with a brilliant 63 off 41 balls, striking 9 fours and 1 six. She was well-supported by Amanjot Kaur, who played a fiery unbeaten knock of 63 off just 40 balls, with 9 boundaries to her name.
Towards the end, Richa Ghosh provided the finishing touches with an explosive 32* off 20 balls, hitting 6 boundaries. The partnership between Amanjot and Richa added crucial runs, enabling India Women to post a strong total of 181/4 in their 20 overs.
Chasing 182, England Women lost early wickets as Sophia Dunkley (1 off 5) and Danielle Wyatt-Hodge (1 off 2) departed cheaply. Tammy Beaumont kept England’s hopes alive with a scintillating 54 off 35 balls, smashing 8 boundaries and 1 six. She was supported by Amy Jones (32 off 27) and Sophie Ecclestone (35 off 23), but the required run rate kept climbing.
Despite their efforts, England Women could only manage 157/7 in their 20 overs, falling short by 24 runs. Shree Charani’s double-wicket spell and some sharp fielding from India, including two run-outs, ensured India’s victory.
Amanjot Kaur for her all-round performance — a vital unbeaten 63 runs and a wicket to her name.
India Women’s victory was a result of a well-rounded team effort, with contributions from both batters and bowlers, securing a memorable win in the 2nd T20I.
